What's new at Hassocks Station?

HASSOCKS COMMUNITY ORGANISATION

Over the summer, the Hassocks Community Organisation Rail Group has been working with the Monday Group to repair and re-beautify the planters at the station. We also work with the HCO Green Group to plant up and maintain the large planters.

You may also have noticed that the exterior of the station buildings and the roofs over the gate lines, the stairs and the waiting shelters have all had a good deep clean. The Network Rail sign on the east-side of the station, which had become very forlorn looking, has been refurbished and a new sign put up.

This is all thanks to the Rail Group following these matters up with GTR managers. Making our village an attractive place to live is one of the many things HCO projects do. Following the Covid pandemic, a reinvigorated Rail Group resumed meeting every four months to ensure that residents and rail users continue to have the means to engage rail company managers.

The station you see now, and the services it provides, would not have happened without the hard work and determination of the Rail Group. If you are interested in joining the Rail Group to help ensure Hassocks and surrounding villages continue to have the services they need, please email our chair, Catherine Cassidy, on cc@ hassockscommunity.org.uk. The work we do is not at all onerous or time demanding – email and the short four monthly get-togethers are usually all that is required.

The Rail Group would particularly like representation from train users who commute to London Victoria or to Brighton, or are frequent leisure travellers.
